Advanced Brain Imaging Group

Overview - international

We specialize in advanced neuroimaging with a strong focus on the individual analysis of brain structure, function, and connectivity. Using state-of-the-art MRI techniques, we go beyond conventional imaging to provide deeper insights into how the brain is organized and how it operates as a network.

Our core expertise includes functional MRI (fMRI), particularly resting-state fMRI, to assess functional brain connectivity, as well as structural imaging using Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) and tractography to visualize and analyze white matter pathways. By combining functional and structural information, we enable a network-based understanding of the brain, exceeding standard neuroradiology.

A major focus of our work is neuro-oncology, where we investigate how brain tumors such as gliomas and brain metastases alter functional and structural connectivity. We have developed advanced imaging biomarkers, including the Dysconnectivity Index (DCI), to quantify patient-specific network disruptions and support diagnosis, prognosis, therapy monitoring, and pre-surgical planning.

We also work extensively in the field of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Our imaging approaches help detect early functional and structural connectivity changes, monitor disease progression, and support the evaluation of therapeutic effects.

Brain health is a growing focus in modern medicine. While conventional MRI mainly assesses brain structure, our advanced neuroimaging approach goes further by combining functional MRI (fMRI) with structural connectivity imaging. This allows us to evaluate how the brain functions and how efficiently its networks are connected, enabling a more comprehensive assessment of brain health than standard MRI alone.

Our interdisciplinary team combines clinical expertise, research excellence, and advanced technology to deliver next-generation neuroimaging for precision diagnostics, treatment planning, and scientific discovery.
